In September I made a visit to the U.K. to explore old stomping grounds in the south of England, visit friends and family in Bournemouth and Weston-super-Mare and to see Kate Bush’s ‘Before the Dawn’ residency at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. The above photo is of Corfe Castle Train Station in Dorset with Corfe Castle in the background.
One of my favourite places to explore in the U.K. is what is known as the Jurassic Coast, 95 miles of coastline from East Devon to Dorset an area I called home in my youth. One of the most amazing examples of this geological ‘walk through time’ spanning the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods is Durdle Door (below) a natural arch at Lulworth Cove.
A trip to the U.K. never gets old for me, there is so much to explore and with family and friends there’s always plenty of camaraderie. And the added enticement of seeing Kate Bush perform for the first time in 35 years, well… I didn’t even have to think twice!
If you know Kate Bush you may recognize the title I’ve given this post, ‘Oh England My Lionheart’ is a song Kate wrote for her 1978 album called ‘Lionheart’… have a listen…
Here’s a slide show from my trip, including photos from the South Coast of Arundel in West Sussex; the New Forest in my home county of Hampshire; Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Shaftesbury and my hometowns of Bournemouth, Boscombe and Christchurch, all in Dorset; Tintagel, legendary birthplace of King Arthur, in Cornwall; Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, Weston-super Mare and Bristol in Somerset; Kidwelly and Carmarthen in Carmarthenshire, Wales; Stonehenge outside Amesbury in Wiltshire and finally back to London including a few shots of Kate Bush at the Hammersmith.
