Ottawa CityFolk 2025

The Pogues

My first time in six years at Ottawa CityFolk, due primarily to a couple of accidents that left me with two concussions, broken bones and more, I decided CityFolk would be a safer restart then Bluesfest would be. CityFolk averages 10K people per day, where Bluesfest averages 30K per day. I won’t say it was easy, I only went for 3 out of 5 days, the first two days went well and I really enjoyed seeing Melissa Etheridge for the 2nd time, the first time was in 2017, this time she was touring with The Indigo Girls on Day 2 of the festival. Day 3 was Morrissey with James, I saw James back in 2019 and he was amazing then as he was this time, and Mint Simon opened the day up. Day 4 was The Pogues with Dropkick Murphys, DM I saw back in 2016, and Catbite opened the day. Day 4 was the hardest for me, as the DropKick Murphys fans decided flying over my head was a good idea… no, they didn’t know I was a guy in my 60s still getting over two concussions… when I saw them coming I hit panic mode and just said, nope, this isn’t going to happen and I just ducked and covered and then exited the area. You’ll notice the photos for DM go from close up to distant, and then for The Pogues go back to being close up, as after DM finished I hoped it would be safe to return to the front of stage, and it was! So overall I survived my first festival since 2019.
