#101!! The Wellington Record Club meets monthly at The Wellington Gastropub in the White Room, and last night was the 101st meetup. We listened to two debut albums released a few months apart back in 1995, Tricky’s Maxinquaye and Supergrass’s I Should Coco. Great music on Tetra Listening Instruments-Speakers, with great food and beverages, and a great group of listeners! Yes, it was a Great night!!
I was not familiar with either of these bands, but was surprised as usual with what I do know about them. Tricky is yet another Trip Hop band out of Bristol, and was previously a member of Massive Attack who was my introduction to Trip Hop years ago, but over the years Tricky has worked with a number of other artists I also enjoy… Terry Hall (of the Specials), Björk, Alanis Morissette and Grace Jones to name a few. The album we listened to has a very strong, and I’ll say really good, rap feel and also included Alison Goldfrapp on one song, the small world of music always surprises me. Supergrass is another English band out of Oxford, a “BritPop” alt rock band that reminded me of a lot of the 80s bands I used to listen to back in the post punk days. Though one song had me thinking of The Beatles.
Thanks again Shane!
