On August 20th Ottawa saw the opening of a new concert venue downtown, History Ottawa! The Wallflowers, a U.S. band led by Jakob Dylan (son of Bob Dylan), were the Official Grand Opening artist. History Ottawa, located on Rideau Street in the ByWard Market, is a two level venue with a capacity of 2,000, and I believe this place will be a game changer for concerts in Ottawa! Opening for The Wallflowers was Early James… they’re from Alabama and they let us know they were sorry about that! LOL! The Wallflowers 2026 Tour celebrates the 30th Anniversary of their second album Bringing Down the Horse, playing it in it’s entirety, the album produced by T Bone Burnett included four singles: “6th Avenue Heartache”, “One Headlight”, “The Difference”, and “Three Marlenas”. This tour is also a Tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s 1982 album Long After Dark which they also performed in it’s entirety including the three singles: “You Got Lucky”, “Change of Heart” and “Straight into Darkness”, and the show had a few encore surprises too, including “Refugee” and “The Waiting”! Overall it was a great show, I was disappointed with the lighting as whenever Jakob Dylan came to the front of the stage to interact with the audience, which he did quite a lot, he was no longer under any lights, you’ll notice that in some of my photos. The venue is really nice, but I have to say standing on a hard concrete floor for over three hours is not as easy as standing in a field at a festival for a lot longer! Sorry for the delay in posting these, I posted a few photos over on Facebook shortly after the show, but due to my participation in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada in August I’ve only just had time today to process all my photos.
